JOHOR BAHRU: A factory operator was charged in the magistrate’s court yesterday with four counts of supporting Islamic State (Daesh) militant activities, including a bomb attack in Puchong, Selangor in June this year.

No plea was recorded from the accused, Mohammad Firdaus Abdullah, 26, to the charges read out before magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias.

On the first count, he is accused of giving support to the terror act of mounting a bomb attack on Movida Bar, Puchong through telegram application with the title ‘Amanah (phb) vs Pas’ under the name of Jengking Malaya between June 17 and 29, 2016.

The offence under Section 130J (1)(b) of the Penal Code carries a life sentence or a jail term not exceeding 30 years or a fine, and forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used in the commission of the offence.

On the second count, he is accused of having in possession, a book titled  ‘Tarbiyah Jihadiyah’, believed to be related to IS and al-Qaeda at a house in Taman Suria Muafakat Utama, Larkin, here on Aug 4.

For this offence under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, he can be jailed for up to seven years or fined, and be forfeited of his property used or intended to be used in the commission of the offence.

Mohammad Firdaus was also charged with lending support to terror attacks by suggesting the use of drones over Bukit Aman (federal police headquarters), Putrajaya (federal administrative centre) and Freemason Lodge in Bukit Jalil through telegram application with the title ‘Amanah (phb) vs Pas’ under the name of Jengking Malaya between June 17 and 29.

The offence under Section 130J (1)(b) of the Penal Code provides for a life sentence or up to 30 years’ jail or a fine, and forfeiture of assets used in the commission of the offence.

The fourth charge was for giving support to the IS group through the telegram application with the title ‘Gagak Hitam’ under the name of Jengking Malaya between March 25 and June 17.

The offence under Section 130J (1)(a) carries a life sentence or a fine.

Magistrate Mohd Azlan set Oct 3 for case mention to apply for transfer of the case to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Meanwhile, the accused pleaded guilty to possessing a fake Airsoft gun MK681C2 on Aug 4, for which Mohd Azlan sentenced him to five months’ jail from the date of his arrest.

DPP Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by lawyers Mohd Fazaly Mohd Ghazaly Ali and Lydiana Mansor. — Bernama
