KUCHING: Two Sarawak Paralympians will represent the country at the 2016 Summer Paralympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro from Sept 7-18, said Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah during an incentive awards ceremony held at Baitulmal Building yesterday.

According to her, the two Sarawakians are Jamery Siga in swimming and Jong Yee Khie in powerlifting.

They join the Malaysian contingent of 21 athletes (19 men and two women) left for Rio on Monday, to compete in eight out of 23 sports – athletics, archery, cycling, powerlifting, sailing, swimming, table-tennis and wheelchair tennis.

“We are proud that the two will represent the country for the coming Paralympics.

“No matter what their achievement is in Rio de Janeiro, we are proud of them as they are our champions,” Fatimah added. — by Matthew Umpang
