“The six-day expedition covering 193 km to the peak of Mount Murud will be a test of both mental and physical endurance of the participants, who at the same time will enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna at the mountain,” he told a news conference here yesterday.

He added that the expedition team will fly the Jalur Gemilang at the summit of the mountain on Sept 16 to celebrate Malaysia Day.

“The expedition is part of the efforts to promote Limbang and Malaysia in general as an important expedition destination and also tourist attraction.

“Limbang has lots of potential for expedition and other attractions including Merarap Hot Spring, Gunung Buda, Headhunter Trail besides the rich cultural heritage of the local people,” he said.

Selamat urged the private sector to work closely with government agencies in promoting tourism products including homestays.

“The expedition team will be divided into two groups – one using flight from Lawas while the other group will drive to Lawas and from there depart for their expedition in a convoy of 11 four-wheel-drive vehicles.

“We will stop at Merarap Hot Spring for lunch, and then pass through villages in Long Semadoh, Long Sukang to sample traditional local delicacies on the first day of the expedition and then depart for Murud Mountain on the second day,” he added.
