KUCHING: Several key posts in Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will be uncontested during the triennial delegates’ conference (TDC) this coming Oct 21-23 in Bintulu.

The party’s secretary-general Datuk Wilfred Nissom

said this was based on the returns received from the party’s 38 branches and finalised during the election committee meeting on Tuesday.

Nissom said the uncontested posts are president, youth and women chief, deputy and vice women chief.

The party’s president is Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, who is also deputy chief minister.

“Based on the returns from the annual general meeting (AGM) from the 38 branches in the state, these key posts will not be contested,” Nissom, who is also the election committee chairman, told a press conference at the party’s headquarters here yesterday.

Also present was election committee secretary Edward Kurik.

There will be contests for the deputy president post between incumbent Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun and Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, and the deputy youth chief.

He added that seats in the supreme council, youth and women wings would also be contested.

For the vice presidents, Nissom said the election committee had received 10 nominations for five slots, adding that the youth and women chief automatically become the vice presidents by virtue of their positions.

Snowdan Lawan is the new Youth chief, replacing Liwan Lagang—who exceeds the age limit of 40 years, Datuk Doris Brodie is the Women chief and her deputy is Rosalyn Neging.

The vice women chief is Agnes Ludil.

Nissom also said the TDC would be attended by 635 delegates—346 from the main body, youth wing (125 delegates) and 164 delegates from the women wing.

Members from Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties-PBB, SUPP and SPDP have also been invited, Nissom added.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has been invited to officiate at the TDC.
