MIRI: Works on the Sarawak section of the Pan Borneo Highway project are proceeding well and on schedule, except for the Nyabau-Bakun junctions.

According to Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, works on the section under the contract package in Bintulu are slightly behind schedule due to land matters.

“However, I am confident that this will not affect the whole project; for it to be completed according to contract specifications,” he told reporters yesterday after having chaired the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth executive committee meeting.

The other three packages of Sarawak section under the Pan Borneo Highway project are the Telok Melano-Sematan (new 40km single carriageway) section, the Serian-Pantu section and the Sibu section.

On the project’s next eight packages, Fadillah said his ministry had finalised the appointment of contractors for the works.

“We target to launch simultaneously all eight packages in Miri, tentatively in October pending availability of both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem,” he said.

Fadillah stressed that overall, he was happy with the progress of the Pan Borneo project in Sarawak, adding that the technical and financial committees headed by the State Secretary had done their part effectively.

The highway, stretching from Sematan to Miri, is scheduled for completion by 2022.
