KUCHING: Kuching Lord Tigers are now in seventh heaven after registering their seventh consecutive victory in the 2nd Yuwang East Malaysia Basketball League (EBL) in Kota Kinabalu on Friday.

Their latest triumph was a 108-80 thumping of the Labuan Wasps on Friday night and that has kept them firmly in the driver’s seat with 14 points from seven games, with only five more games to go in the preliminary round.

Right from the first whistle, the Tigers shored up their defence with man-to-man marking and the solid combination of Yiek

Chai Teck, Bobby Juandale Balucanag and former national cager Chai Chze Hian put the defending champions 31 points (70-39) ahead at half-time and 92-64 when the third quarter ended.

The final quarter saw the Tigers slowing down their pace but still won by 28 points to keep their unbeaten record intact.

Three Tigers scored more than 20 points each, including Chai Teck with 22 points and nine rebounds, Bobby with 20 points and seven robounds and Chze Hian with 21 points and five assists while Jessie James Bulaon Collado contributed 11 points and nine rebounds.

Wasps, who were obviously missing the service of key players Singaporean import Delvin Goh, Yeow Kee Aik and William Soon Siik Yang, had to rely heavily on their Filipino imports Paul CC Zamar who scored 13 points and seven rebounds, Micheal Parlala 16 points and 10 rebounds and John M Noble 16 points and six rebounds.

In the other game of the evening, Brunei Beruang Blazers shocked the home team Kota Kinabalu Eagles 79-76 to end their losing streak of five games.

Both teams now have nine points with two wins and five losses but the Eagles have a better points difference to sit in third spot in the table standings while the Wasps maintained their second spot with 10 points from three wins and four losses.
