KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Lee Chong Wei broke little sweat in booking his berth in the semi-finals of the Japan Open Super Series Badminton Championship today.

In the match played at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, The world number one  subdued Shi Yuqi of China in 21-12 and 21-12.

The Rio Olympics singles silver medallist will next face Marc Zwiebler of Germany.

Also making it to the semi-finals were mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying.However, women’s doubles pair Vivian Ho-Woon Khe Wei lost 22-20, 21-23 and 14-21 to the world’s fifth ranked pair, Christinna Pedersen-Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark.

Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying defeated the South Korean pair of Kim Gi Jung-Shin Seung Chan 21-17, 21-18 in the quarter-finals.

The Olympic silver medal winners will meet either Ko Sung Hyun-Kim Ha Na of South Korea or Nipitphon Phuangphuapet-Jongkolphan Kititharakul of Thailand in the semi-finals. – Bernama
