CM wants homebred talents, new FAS told

KUCHING: The new Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) exco yesterday paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.

The fresh faces of FAS, who were elected after the annual general meeting, were led by deputy president Abdul Wahab Rahim.

According to Wahab, the visit was to introduce the new FAS exco members to the chief minister and to discuss issues concerning state football.

“We gathered input from him on ways to improve the team and also the development of the sport.

“Adenan raised the importance of scouting for local talents and also development at the grassroots, which we strongly support,” said Wahab.

He added that Adenan had made it a point that it was important for grassroots football to be able to create quality players who can be polished to become professionals.

On the conspicuous issue of the president of the association, Wahab said the post is currently vacant and selection for the best candidate to hold the post will be made next year.

“For the meantime I will be the caretaker of the association untill the post is filled,” he said. — by Saiful Bahari
