SEPANG: A 20-year-old lorry driver was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today with five counts of providing support to Daesh militant group via social media.
Syed Amir Asyraf Syed Hamdan was seen shedding tears and nodded in understanding when the charges were read to him before Magistrate Sharifah Muhaymin Abd Khalib.
However, no plea was recorded.
On the first count, Syed Amir Asyraf was charged with knowingly providing support to the militant group using a Facebook account under the name of Syed Malizi (written in Jawi).
On the second count, he was charged with using Telegram application in accepting instruction from Muhammad Wanddy Mohamad Jedi to commit a terrorist act using a hand grenade, a pistol and 24 live bullets.
On the third count, he was charged with knowingly promoting Daesh membership through WhatsApp and Facebook.
On the fourth count, Syed Amir Asyraf was charged with being in possession of pictures and videos related to terrorist act and Daesh militant group.
On the fifth count, he was charged with knowingly getting involved in committing attacks through his conversation in WeChat.
He was alleged to have committed all the offences at a house in Kampung Sg Merab Luar, Bandar Baru Bangi, near here between Jan 9 to Aug 27 this year. The court set Oct 26 to remention at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Earlier, Syed Amir Asyraf pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to three other charges, namely of being in possession of a hand grenade, a pistol and 24 live bullets without licence at 4.45 pm on Aug 27.
Judge Harith Sham Mohamed Yasin set Oct 21 for sentencing. – Bernama
