Eagles, Wasps battle for final ticket

KUCHING: It will be a grudge match for Kota Kinabalu Eagles and Labuan Wasps as they meet in the pre-final of the 2nd Yuwang East Malaysia Basketball League (EBL) at the MBKS Indoor Stadium in Pending tonight.

In last year’s competition where both teams met in the semi-finals and the winner to be decided on the best of three games, the rivalry was very intense and play was rough. It was the Wasps who eventually triumphed to meet and lost to Kuching Lord Tigers in the final.

However, there is a change to the rules this year where the team with most wins automatically seals a spot in the final while the second and third best shall vie for the other final ticket.

Both teams have met each other four times this season and level with two wins each.

However, the Eagles look to be soaring high especially when they won three out of six games in the Kota Kinabalu and Brunei circuits while the Wasps are on a low after suffering five consecutive defeats in six games.

With Filipino imports Paul CC Zamar, Singapore import Delvin Goh and Sarawak player Ting Huong Ling playing to their true form, the Wasps are still a force to be reckoned with.

Tonight’s match starts at 7pm and tickets are priced at RM5 for students aged 12 to 18, RM10 for adults and RM30 VIP ticket which includes soft drink while admission is free for children aged under 12 years old. — by Ting Tieng Hee
