KUCHING: Parents can give their children a quality British education without leaving the country as Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM) has a campus in Johor.

It opened in August 2012, and is the first independent, British boarding and day school, which is a genuine expansion of the Marlborough brand and not a franchise.

The Preparatory School takes in pupils from age four and Senior School includes a sixth form to age 18. The campus has six boarding houses and a staff-to-pupil ratio of 1:8.

“Whilst maximising academic potential is an essential requirement for any school, the co-curricular aspect is a vital part of developing an all-round person. The spacious 90-acre campus with outstanding facilities allows for excellent opportunity in sporting and outdoor pursuits. We also place high value in the contribution of music, art, drama and service to others in the holistic education that we deliver to the pupils in our care,” said school master Bob Pick during a presentation on the school on Thursday evening at a hotel here.

“We also want our students to think outside the box, and not just regurgitating facts.”

He added that the education is based on 3C’s of conversation, companionship and compassion.

A former student, Larry Sng who is former Pelagus assemblyman, highly recommends the school as it gives a genuine British education system that is of quality.

“There are many international schools in Malaysia but MCM stands out because the college in Johor and campus in Marlborough is very well integrated. I’m seriously considering sending my child there later on, for Lower Sixth.”

He studied Lower Sixth at the UK campus from 1996-98.

Marlborough College was founded for the sons of the clergy of the Church of England in 1843, just after Queen Victoria came to the throne. Marlborough College Alumni include William Morris (founder of Arts and Crafts movement in England), Catherine Middleton (Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge), Siegfried Sasson (war poet) and Lauren Child (author of Charlie and Lola and Clarice Bean).

MCM is located at Jalan Marlborough, Iskandar Puteri Johor. Contact number is 07-560220 or visit its website at www.marlboroughcollege.my.
