KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the American Corner at the UMS library.

The corner will house materials about the US and is expected to be ready this coming December.

At the same time, the MoU is also aimed at organising activities that will benefit the campus community and the general public.

With the MoU, the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy has agreed to establish collection about US policies, education, geography, history, society, culture and others.

The MoU was signed by UMS vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah and Frank J. Whitaker of the US Embassy’s Public Affairs Section.

According to Frank when met by reporters later, they were very excited to have UMS as a partner and they were looking forward to work with the university and her students.

“The corner will be located at the UMS library. It will be a platform for various programmes — partnership with the US Embassy, studying in the US, English studies, environment protection … there will also be collection of books and resource materials, access to American technology,” he said.

The corner will also feature the Smithsonian design which he promised will be practical and appealing that will give UMS the best advantage.
