LIMBANG: A woman here was cheated of RM35,000 by a man who claimed to be a police inspector who could release her son from being detained for drug related offences.

Limbang District police chief superintendent Mohd Bukhori Saffai said in the incident that occurred last Friday afternoon, the victim received a call by the suspect who said that the victim’s son was detained for drugs possession.

“To release the son, the suspect asked for RM35,000 from the victim, which she obliged. Without hesitation, she bank in RM30,000 and RM5,000 into two separate bank accounts believed to be owned by the suspect,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Mohd Bukhori added that the victim only realised that she was cheated when her son came home, and denied any involvement in drug related activities.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
