KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 20,000 students from Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) centres, youths and micro-entrepreneurs have generated over RM14.3 million in accumulated sales after undergoing an entrepreneurial programme.

The Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDeC) said by year-end about 45,000 participants were expected to attend the course with the target of achieving RM21 million in accumulated sales.

Under the eRezeki programme, an additional revenue of over RM18 million in accumulated sales was garnered as at December 2015 by more than 20,000 participants, MDeC said in a statement.

Speaking at the opening of the state-level #YOUCANDUIT Carnival at the Sabah Trade Centre here, MDEC chairman Tan Sri Sidek Hassan urged the public to attend the two-day campaign.

Meanwhile, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the broadband penetration rate in Sabah had reached 70 per cent from 25.6 per cent in 2010, thanks to the state and federal governments’ efforts to develop digital entrepreneurship in the state.

His speech was read by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and State Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak and MDeC chief executive officer Datuk Yasmin Mahmood were present.

Organised by MDeC, the #YOUCANDUIT Carnival is divided into two core programmes, namely eUsahawan and eRezeki, which aimed at paving the way for and train low-income households to get more income through digital endeavours.

Kota Kinabalu is the fifth venue for #YOUCANDUIT after its launch in Kuching, Sarawak in March this year, followed by roadshows in Terengganu, Johor and Pahang. — Bernama
