KAPIT: The Mobile Outreach Programme under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) Sarawak held on Friday and Saturday at Rumah Tat, Nanga Entanggai received an overwhelming response.

Organised by the Kapit District Office under the chairmanship of district officer Elvis Didit, it was attended by some 80 Tuai Rumah and hundreds of residents of longhouses along Sungai Belawai, Nanga Yong, Sungai Ibau and Sungai Melipis under the jurisdiction of Penghulu Pasang Tubak, Penghulu Nylong Daga and Penghulu Enggin Nyipa in Bukit Goram state constituency.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi officiated at the function.

Present were Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Brigadier General Datuk Stephen Mundaw, Deputy Kapit Resident (Development) Minggu Jampong, administrative officer Robert Anyaw, assistant land officer Watson Awan and other heads of government departments.

Among the highlights of the programme were talks on healthcare, government policies and assistance by government agencies.

The medical team from the army provided general health screening and dental examination.

Outdoor activities like mass aerobic exercise and fire drill were also held. The Kapit District Office and Welfare Department set up an e-kasih counter to register those needing government assistance, while the Community Development Department set up a counter to register voters.

“As far as I’m concerned, the programme really benefitted the people especially those living in the rural areas because through this strategy (mobile Outreach Programme), the government is not only able to reach the people, but can also bring its services to the people right at their door step. So they don’t have to go to town for services like healthcare and applying for assistance,” Elvis told reporters.

He said they had arranged for a similar programme to be held at Rumah Yang, Nanga Merit in Belaga in early December this year, and probably another one in Pelagus constituency next year.

He thanked the government agencies for their cooperation in making the programme a great success.
