KUCHING: A 31-year-old woman was killed in a road accident that occurred near Sungai Rayu, Feri Rambungan in Lundu around 5.30am yesterday.

The deceased, identified as Noriza Mohamed, was on her way from the city to Lundu when the Perodua Viva she was driving skidded and was later hit by another vehicle.

She was trapped in the car following the crash.

According to deputy director of state Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department DSP Alexson Naga Chabu, the accident took place along a stretch of straight road which was yet to be tarred due to the on-going upgrading works.

An investigation led the authority to believe that both vehicles were headed for Lundu when they collided, he said in a press statement.

Alexson said the woman died on the spot while the driver of the other car was taken to Sarawak General Hospital for medical attention.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987.

Last Sunday, another life was lost during a single-vehicle accident along Jalan Kpg Kerian in Padawan around 2.50pm.

This fatal incident was brought to the attention of the authority after the deceased’s son lodged a police report.

The deceased, identified as Loh Sip Seng, was said to be riding his motorcycle when the accident took place.

According to the son, Loh died when receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.

The son reported the case at 22.31pm on the same day The authority is looking into the case under Section 41(1) of  the Road Transport Act, 1987.
