KUALA LUMPUR: Both the government and the opposition must back the effort of the National Consultative Committee On Political Funding (JKNMPP) in the proposal to introduce the Contributions and Expenditures Act.

Selangor Youth Council president Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim, in a statement yesterday, said the act must be implemented so that the people could have a picture regarding the political parties and politicians.

“The act must be well-received by all quarters and it is hoped that a study on the regulatory method of political contributions and funds be conducted from time to time to ensure it is effective.

“Prior to this, the opposition did not agree that political contributions be monitored by a neutral and objective party so that contribution methods were more transparent,” he said.

Irmohizam, who is also Kuala Selangor Member of Parliament, said the action of the Prime Minister in creating JKNMPP was apt in ensuring that political governance would improve.

JKNMPP yesterday outlined 32 proposals including introducing the Political Contributions and Expenditures Act to boost integrity and political funding.

Its chairman Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, was reported as saying the proposal would be tabled before the Cabinet in two weeks before being taken to Parliament to be debated and approved. — Bernama
