KUALA LUMPUR: The police have crippled a drug-smuggling ring based in the Klang Valley, with suspected links to secret society ‘Gang 36’.

This follows the arrest of the ring’s 38-year-old suspected mastermind who is a member of ‘Gang 36’, six men and a woman in connection with the seizure of Ketamine worth RM7.07 million.

The eight were picked up in Kepong here last Friday.

The rest of the suspects were aged between 30 and 54.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh said the suspects were nabbed at an open area which housed scrap items.

He said the police believed the ring’s suspected mastermind was a ‘Gang 36’ secret society member.

“The police raided the rear of a shipping container and found two bags containing three plastic packages containing ketamine weighing about two kilogrammes.

“Also seized were three luggages with 27 plastic packages containing ketamine weighing 99kg, which were found in nearby bushes,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters here yesterday.

Amar Singh said the suspects who tested postive for amphetamine were in the midst of having their drug ‘fix’ during the raid. They have been remanded for six days until Thursday to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. — Bernama
