KUCHING: Sarawak Taekwondo Association (STF) is ultra-confident that its athletes, if selected to the national squad, will shine at the KL SEA Games next July.

“Ten of our athletes are currently undergoing training and selection in Kuala Lumpur and I am very confident that are capable of winning glory for the country,” said its president Mohd Salleh Sani.

According to Salleh the athletes included those going for the poomsae events. “Our athletes Maureen Urai Lian and Ahmady Rady won the poomsae mixed pair bronze in 2013 in Jakarta and I am hoping the state athletes can return with better achievements next year,” he added.

Salleh also shared some good news, that of state technical chairman and chief instructor Tan Check Joon being re-elected to be a committee member of the Taekwondo Malaysia executive board, which is the second highest body in TM — and above state affiliates.

“He has been on the board for a number of times and this year he garnered the highest number of votes,” said Salleh who added that Tan is a respected figure in the TM circle. “Our management and development programmes are also well respected by TM officials and other states.” — by Ting Tieng Hee
