KUCHING: The Asian Congress on Fluid Mechanics (ACFM) provides a good platform to exchange ideas and experience as well as to assimilate the latest information in the field.

The message was delivered by Institution of Engineers of Malaysia (IEM)’s president Tan Yean Chin during the opening of the 15th Asian Congress on Fluid Mechanics (ACFM) at a hotel here yesterday.

“The 15th ACFM is a good platform for the exchange of ideas and experience as well as to assimilate the latest information in this field.

“This Congress has managed to bring together distinguished and learned personalities from the international engineering fraternity.

“We are indeed extremely honoured to have with us, during the course of this Congress, eminent speakers who will present a variety of topics related to the various fields of fluid mechanics,” Tan said in a text of speech read by IEM’s vice president Professor Dr Jeffrey Chiang who attended the Congress on his behalf yesterday.

The objective of the ACFM is to review recent advancement achieved in the field of fluid mechanics to facilitate the exchange of results and discussions on major issues among fluid mechanics researchers and engineers.

The ACFM was organised with the intention of encouraging scientific and technical cooperation and exchange among Asian countries.

Organising chairman Associate Professor Dr. Kannan Munisamy said fluid mechanics is a very niche area for discussion.

Moreover, Asian Fluid Mechanics Committee’s (AFMC) chairman Professor G. S. Bhat shared that the AFMC was founded in 1980 in India to advance research in fluid mechanics in Asia through interaction and exchange of information between workers in the field of fluid mechanics.

At the same time, IEM in a statement said during each ACFM, the latest developments in studying theory, practice and calculation as well as industrial and technological progress in fluid mechanics were presented.

The 15th ACFM 2016, held from November 21 to 24 was participated by 150 participants from Japan, China, Malaysia, Bangladesh, the Czech Republic, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, US and Iran.

Tan also praised ACFM’s Local Committee advisor Datuk Dr. Ow Chee Sheng who was the IEM past president for being instrumental in bringing the 15th ACFM 2016 to Kuching.

Besides, Tan also extend his appreciation to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and the state government as well as to Sarawak Convention Bureau, organisation and universities for instance Centre for Fluid Dynamics, Centre for Advanced Material and Green Technology, Universiti Tenaga Nasional and Multimedia University for making the event a sucess.

Among those present at the opening of 15th Asian Congress on Fluid Mechanics 2016 yesterday were IEM Sarawak Branch’s chairman Vincent Tang, local and foreign delegates as well as fellow engineers.
