Flood inundated Barabai

BARABAI, South Kalimantan: Floods again struck Central Hulu Sungai (HST) after a night-long heavy rains on Monday (21/11) until Tuesday (22/11) at 09.00 pm. The rain across the district led to a number of settlements in Barabai by the Benawa River flooded, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

Regent’s residence at Jalan Perwira also not spared from the puddle. Even the entrance to the guardhouse was
inundated till yard of the residence.

Water also began to enter the entrance road to the legislative council (DPRD) building near the river, but has not touched the yard yet.

The Dwi Warna field was like a lake in the town center. While at Jalan Pasar III and II, water reached the knees of adults, making some shops closed.

The roads inundated were Brigjen H Hasan Basri, Bukat, Kamasan, Jalan Sarigading, Jalan Ganesya, Jalan P HM Noor as well as the provincial road in the village of Pajukungan. Some schools were forced to dismiss early such as SMAN 1, SMPN1, SMPN 2 and SMPN 3 Barabai.

According to the Head of the HST Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Ali Fahmi, there were two villages in Haruyan Sub-district became a point of landslide, Mu’ui and Sungai Harang. The villages are located along the river, such as South Batang Alai and North Batang Alai also flooded.

“For now we are still handling and continue to communicate and monitor with firebrigade (Balakar) that we might detect as early as possible and provide assistance if there will be victim or the condition of the water continues to overflow,” he said.
