Kanowit town needs more parking bays – Allan Siden

KANOWIT town is in dire need of more parking bays due to the increasing number of vehicles, said Allan Siden Gramong (BN-Machan).

“Insufficient parking spaces have been quite a major problem in this little town, especially as more longhouses are getting connected with roads and more people buy cars, pick-ups, lorries and motorcycles.

“During weekends and festive seasons like Gawai, the roads would be congested. Believe it or not, traffic jam is a common occurrence during weekends and festive seasons,” he said in his debate on State Budget 2017.

Allan cautioned that the traffic congestion would worsen once the Kanowit Bridge is completed in the middle of next year.

He added: “With the completion of Kanowit-Song- Kapit road, the problem would become unmanageable and unbearable as more motorists and travellers pass through Kanowit.”

He thus urged the local government minister to look into the matter together with the Kanowit District Council.

He also informed the august House that the old site of SMK Sedaya had been left vacant for quite some time.

He suggested that the government turn the site into a technical and vocational college which could serve as a centre for human resource development, not only for Kanowit but the entire Rajang Basin.

Apart from that, Allan requested the Rural Water Department to conduct a study on the need for water supply for 41 longhouses, four schools

and a settlement along Jalan Majau, Ng. Poi, Jalan Menalun, Jalan Ng. Mam and Jalan Batu Luking.

“It will be easier to lay the water main pipeline via the Kanowit Bridge to cross Kanowit River to reach all the longhouses, schools and settlement once the bridge is completed by mid 2017.”

On electricity, Allan hoped that Rh Entalai, Ng Machan; Rh Lunsa, Krangan Bau; Rh Brinau, Ulu Maong and Rh Teddy Betau, Jikang would have power supply next year.
