Dismiss ban on peninsula opposition leaders entering Sabah – PKR

KOTA KINABALU: The Barisan Nasional-led State Government was urged to dismiss a ban on opposition leaders from Peninsular Malaysia to enter Sabah.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman should not abuse the power given to him under the law of Immigration 1963, said Penampang Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chief, Kenny Chua in a statement yesterday.

Chua said it was unfair for the people of Sabah when a motion to ban Red Shirt leader, Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos was rejected by the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Datuk Syed Abbas Syed Ali but many opposition leaders were barred.

The motion was submitted by Party Warisan Sabah’s Moyog assemblymen Terrence Siambun following demand made by many Sabahan who did not want the troublemaker Jamal to enter State as he might disrupt the harmony of peace loving people of Sabah.

BN government who controls the DUN has barred PKR vice presidents Rafizi Ramli, Tian Chua, Nurul Izzah Anwar and former Bersih leader, Ambiga Sreenervasen from entering Sabah.

Hence, we would like to ask if this BN-led Sabah Government wiould impose the same ban on the Red Shirt leader who had created social disharmony in Peninsular Malaysia.

“I support Siambun’s reason why Jamal may not be ban is that he has been given special privilege as he is Umno Sungai Besar division Chief and allied himself to many Umno Cabinet Minister including Prime Ministe, Datuk Seri Najib Razak,” said Kenny.

He added a motion was passed by the State legislature last year to bar Nurul Izzah and Tian Chua citing that this was to protect and defend the sovereignty and security of Sabah which was allegedly under threat as the main reason.

However, until now, both Nurul Izzah and Chua have not been prosecuted despite their statements taken by the police following the duo’s so called controversial meeting with the Sulu princes Jacel Kiram.

Despite Nurul Izzah’s explanation that the meeting was made with various stakeholders there without realising that Jacel was one of them, BN state lawmakers still passed the motion, thus giving the BN the imaginative impression of being heroes of Sabah.

Kenny does not see the rejection of Jamal’s banning motion as fair. It shows that the troublemaker leader is given special treatment.

“I was surprised that Syed Abbas in his winding up speech, eventually recommended that the government block the entry of Jamal and Bersih 2.0 chairman, Maria Chin. Why must they fool the people with this kind of tactics?

“Why don’t BN assemblymen submit yet another motion to bar Maria? Is it because if they do so then the government is forced to ban Jamal as well? Obviously, the government has no guts to do so. Its pathetic!” lambasted Kenny.

Kenny challenged the government to prove him wrong by imposing the ban ruling on Jamal.

He said, Syed Abbas, the Balung Umno assemblymen must forward his recommendation (blocking the entry on Jamal and Maria) to Musa to prove that he was sincere in his words.

Otherwise, it would clearly show how BN had misused the authority given to them by simply stopping opposition leaders from coming to Sabah but not to their own notorious ally.
