KUCHING: Waili Abang outplayed Lee Kah Ming to lift his first KGS Captain challenge trophy at the Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) Captain, Deputy Captain and Lady Captain Trophies golf tournament in Petra Jaya yesterday.

Waili carded a 74 gross score to beat Kah Ming by three strokes while junior golfer Aaron Lau was three strokes further back in third place.

In fourth and fifth spots were Dato Wan Abdillah who beat Ahmad Adib Ridhwan on count back (OCB) after both registered a similar score of 81.

The nett title went to Yakop Jalel who posted a 69 score to finish a stroke ahead of Ting Bang Kong while Tommy Lau came in third with a 71.

Leo Mamba and Hazana Bunggal were fourth and fifth with scores of 72 and 74 respectively.

In the Deputy Captain Trophy challenge, Sunny emerged the nett champion with a score of 57.

Liew Yuan Hoe was second with a 69 and he beat Thian Juk Hiun on count back.

The fourth and fifth finishers were Law Hin Teck (70) and Chang Shiu Chong (70).

Mohamad Bedrie was the gross champion with his score of 91 and he finished three strokes ahead of KGS tournament chairman Mazlan Mohamad Salleh.

Third to fifth placed were Aiman Zuhairi Othman (95 OCB), Dr Simon Sinang (95 OCB) and Annuar Abu Bakar (95).

Meanwhile, Angel Hii clinched the Lady Captain challenge trophy after carding a 81 in the gross category.

Gertrude Lee was second two strokes further back while Rebecca Sia came in third on 86.

Fourth and fifth finishers were Latifah Bujang (90) and Christina Foo (91) respectively.

The top three winners of the nett competition were Annie Boon (63), Noor Afrina Brahim (66) and Marana (70).

There was no winner for the hole-in-one prize, a Honda HR-V car worth RM130,000, offered for the feat at Matang Hole 8 or Siol Hole 6. It was sponsored by Jimisar Motors Sdn Bhd.

One hundred sixty members took part in the annual event on the KGS golfing calendar.
