JPJ has stated that information regarding an alleged price hike in road tax next year was false.

KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has denied that there will be a 25 per cent increase in road tax for vehicles above 880 cc from next year onwards.

State JPJ assistant director Albert Clement assured that such information circulated on social media was false.

“We would like to assure vehicles owners that the road tax for 880 cc vehicles and above would remain the same next year,” Albert told The Borneo Post today.

As such, he advised vehicle owners not to get panicky and advised those spreading the false report to stop immediately.

JPJ also categorically denounced the false information in a press release, saying: “JPJ would like to deny that there is any announcement regarding the increase in fees for motor vehicles 880 cc and above starting January next year.

“JPJ is taking the issue seriously as it could confuse the public,” said the statement.

“As such JPJ would like to advise the people not to be easily influence by such information on social media hat has no verified source.”
