MIRI: Teachers must uphold their integrity and to avoid issues that tarnish their image, said Miri District Education officer Dr Hassan Hasbollah at SK Jalan Bintang Miri’s Excellence Awards ceremony at Miri civic centre recently.

“Teachers are the main asset of a school and they are led by the headmaster.

“A teacher who does not perform will affect the whole school and teachers need to be monitored to avoid it from spreading like a virus.

“I encourage parents to file any complaints in a correct way as we want our school in the community to be on par with other schools in the state.

“We are open to suggestions and we strive to resolve any issues in the best possible way that we can,” he added.

Almost 200 students were honoured at the ceremony which was launched by Dr Hassan and among those present were SK Jalan Bintang headmaster Ahmad Othman, PTA chairman Mohd Abdul Manaf Ismawi, senior assistant 1 Henry Madai and PTA vice chairperson Mohd Farez Samin.

Earlier, Ahmad in his speech stressed on the importance of quality teachers in order to produce quality students.

He said where previously A-scoring students were deemed to be bright, they now need a holistic balance in personality, academic and co-curriculum activities.

“I hope parents will encourage their children to be active in co-curriculum activities as well.
