MIRI: A 67 year-old woman and her daughter escaped from their van just moments before it burst into flames near Jalan Bulan Sabit traffic light intersection on Monday.
Prior to the noon incident, the women were en route to Pujut 1 from Tamu Muhibbah where they were earlier selling vegetables.
It is believed that by the time the firefighters arrived at the scene, the van was already engulfed in flames.
Fortunately, the woman and her daughter were not injured.
“It (van) went up (in flames) so quickly; exceptionally quick and instant,” said the woman who only wished to be identified as Bong.
Following their narrow escape, several motorists immediately pulled over to help Bong and her daughter.
According to Bong, just before the fire started, she spotted plumes of smoke coming out from the van’s engine compartment which caused her to pull over and order her daughter to get out of the vehicle.
The interior and exterior of the van was completely destroyed in the incident.
The actual cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained as investigation is ongoing.
