KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has denied that there will be 25 per cent increase for road tax for all vehicles above 880cc starting next year.

State JPJ assistant director Albert Clement assured the people that the news circulated by some people on social media was false.

“We would like to assure vehicles owners that the road tax for 880cc vehicles and above would remain the same next year,” Albert told The Borneo Post here yesterday.

As such, he advised vehicle owners to not panic and called on those who spread the false report to stop it immediately. In a two-paragraph press release yesterday, JPJ denied the false news circulated on social media especially on Facebook and WhatsApp.

“JPJ would like to deny that there is any announcement regarding the increase in fees for motor vehicles 880cc and above, starring January next year.

“The information is false and had been circulated on social media and WhatsApp recently. JPJ is taking the issue seriously as it could confuse the people,” said the statement.
