MIRI: A total of RM58,500,00 of prize money are up for grabs at the Miri Marathon 2017 to be held on March 19.

Miri Marathon Association (MMA) have set a target of 5,000 participants including local and international runners.

Event coordinator Yeo Hui Teck said Miri has a strategic location to conduct a full marathon along a route with a scenic view, bringing runners through the city centre, esplanade and villages.

The event will feature races of four distances: 42km, 21km, 10km and the 5km fun run.

Miri Mayor Adam Yii, who was also present at the press conference, announced that the event is fully supported by the city council and is included in the 2017 Miri City Council (MCC) calendar of events.

“We want the public to be conscious about their health and this is also a tourism boost for Miri city where we can expect international participations.

“This is our chance to introduce our city as well,” he said.

Registration fee is applicable for each race category and registration starts from Dec 1 and the closing date is January 31, 2017.
