KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the 14th general election (GE14) is a choice of whether to elect an Umno-led government or a DAP-led government.

The Umno president said Malaysians, especially the Malays and the Bumiputeras, are at a most critical crossroad in the history of politics in this country.

“The national leadership issue is not something that can be taken lightly. I fear that the Malays and the Bumiputeras are still complacent about this,” he said in his policy speech in conjunction with Umno General Assembly 2016, here yesterday.

The prime minister warned that national leadership cannot be taken light as many rights and privileges of the Malays and the Bumiputeras will disappear and become extinct if the DAP comes to power.

They include Bumiputera institutions such as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda), Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Felcra) and the Bumiputera Agenda Unit (Teraju).

Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), the pride of the Malays and the Bumiputeras for 60 years, will not be able to continue its founding philosophy.

“If the Malays and the Bumiputeras know the nightmare that will plagued their lives, I am sure they will hold tight to Umno, the party that can defend the race and fight for their future.” Najib warned should the DAP get to rule, they will ridicule Islamic teachings and the Muslims, thus causing anger among the Muslim community.

“This is possible since the DAP constitution has no mention of Islam as religion of the federation, does not uphold the Malay rulers and not committed to protect the rights and privileges of the Malays and the Bumiputeras.

“More alarming, the existence of Islamic institutions such as Tabung Haji (TH), Islamic Development Department (Jakim); Wakaf, Zakat and Haji Department and the Zakat Board in the states will be ridiculed and challenged.

“Delivery of these promises and services by the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) government is done willingly and in moderation, in recognition of all groups, regardless of race and religion.” Najib assured that the Umno-led government will continue to be fair and guarantee the rights and interests of non-Muslims in line with the federal constitution.

He said in contrast to the DAP, the Umno-led BN government is concerned about the grievances of the people, especially to reduce the cost of living. — Bernama
