KUCHING: A teenage motorcyclist suffered lacerations to his torso and limbs following a collision with another motorcycle near his home at Kampung Merdang Limau in Kota Samarahan on Wednesday.

The incident happened around 11.30pm, when the 18-year-old was riding alone in search of food for a late night snack despite his machine not having a functioning headlight.

He said he collided moments later with an oncoming motorcycle, which also did not have a functioning headlight, and was thrown off his machine onto the road where he slid for several metres before coming to a halt. Immediately following the accident, the teen claimed the other motorcyclist, who did not appear to be hurt, picked himself up and sped off from the scene.

Family members soon came to his aid after hearing of the incident and brought him to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

In an unrelated matter, a motorist was detained by police after fleeing a routine check near Pasir Pandak yesterday. The 32-year-old man from Kampung Tabuan Hilir was initially signalled by police patrolmen to pull over to the side of the road for inspection, but failed to comply and sped off instead.

His getaway proved to be a brief affair as police managed to overtake and block off his vehicle prior to detaining him on the spot. A subsequent inspection of his vehicle found nothing illegal, with the motorist explaining that he had tried to run away as his road tax had expired.

Following his arrest, the man was brought to the district police headquarters here for further investigation.
