SIBU: A monkey entered the compound of a church in Ling Kai Cheng Road here Thursday noon, and was only caught five hours later by the Civil Defence personnel.

Sibu’s ‘Snake King’ Lai Lee Siew who was at the scene said the monkey had entered the church compound through the front door around noon.

Lai arrived around 4pm only to find the monkey at the ceiling corner about 30 feet above the staircase. Church members had to call the Civil Defence Department to catch the intruder after their use of a trap proved futile.

A Civil Defence personnel climbed up a ladder and used a wire to catch the monkey. It was later handed over to the Sibu Forestry Department.

Lai said this was not the first time a monkey entered the church compound.

“It had happened at least twice before. The last two times the monkey was caught using a trap,” he recalled.

Lai said monkeys could become aggressive and attack human beings if provoked.
