KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is forming a legal committee to look into the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355).

Party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said this would be done in collaboration with local Chinese guilds and associations.

To be spearheaded by the MCA’s Legal Bureau, he said the committee would gather legal experts to discuss the matter.

“The proposed amendments will have implications on our country’s legal system…so, we need to have a detailed study on this,” he told reporters after attending an interactive session with Chinese guilds and associations at Wisma MCA here yesterday.

The transport minister said the committee would also serve as an avenue for MCA to convey its views to the community on the proposed amendments mooted under PAS’ Private Member’s bill. — Bernama
