St Michael’s church, Engkilili to be renovated under RTP next year — Rayong

KUCHING: A proposal to renovate St Michael’s Anglican church in Engkilili has been submitted to the State Planning Unit for funding.

According to Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa the renovation project, including the levelling work for a parking space costing RM200,000, would be part of the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) in his constituency next year.

Rayong who is also United People’s Party (UPP) Youth chief was confident that the project would be approved by the government.

“The proposal has been submitted and all we have to do is wait for its approval and allocation of funds from the SPU” he said when contacted in Engkilili yesterday. On a related project, Rayong noted that the RM500,000 St Benedict’s Chapel in Skrang is now 90 per cent completed. The chapel is located along the Pan Borneo Highway.

Speaking at a luncheon he hosted for the Bishop of Kuching and Brunei Right Rev Datuk Bolly Lapok, Rayong stressed on the importance of unity and political stability to ensure continuous and uninterrupted development in Engkilili.

At the function he pledged RM10,000 from his minor rural project (MRP) fund to St Michael’s Church working committee and another RM5,000 to the church youth group. Its Women Bureau also received RM5,000.

Also present at the luncheon were Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyallau Badak and the church’s committee members. Nyallau also pledged RM10,000 from his MRP fund to St Michael’s Church fund and another RM5,000 to a local Catholic group.
