SEREMBAN: An Opposition state assemblyman’s ‘salam bersih’ greetings caused tension in the state assembly, here yesterday.

Speaker Datuk Dr Awaludin Said then told Veerapan Superamaniam (DAP-Repah) to follow the assembly’s guidelines and not to provoke or hurt the feelings of others.

“The honourable assemblyman (Veerapan) must not repeat ‘salam bersih’ as we never use it here. Instead, we use ‘salam sejahtera’. If you want to change it, this is not the place. Please change it and do not disturb the proceedings,” he added.

Earlier, state assemblyman Datuk Hasim Rusdi (BN-Labu) interjected and urged for action against Veerapan for using unsuitable words in the assembly.

“Act against the assemblyman for using offensive words,” he said followed by thumping of the table by other assemblymen.

Awaludin then ordered Veerapan to withdraw the words which he did and replaced them with ‘salam sejahtera.’ — Bernama
