KUCHING: The Sarawak Former Hockey Players Association (PBPHS) will be organising a holiday hockey camp at Petra Jaya Hockey Stadium from Dec 17-18.

Open to players aged under 16, 14 and 12, the camp is supported by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity as well as Sarawak State Sports Council.

PBPHS president Haidel Heli said the holiday camp is an initiative by the association to promote hockey at grass roots level and an activity for the players during the long school holidays.

“The participants will be taught the basic skills of hockey by experienced coaches.

“Apart from that, we will have a “fun game” among the participants in the move to expose them to the real game of hockey,” he said.

Participants will also be shown a video on the game.

“This is the best opportunity for the participants especially young kids to learn playing basic hockey the right way.

“The camp also serves to help school children to improve their skills in hockey,” added Haidel.

Entry fee per person is RM50 and each participant will be provided with tee-shirt, lunch and drinks. They must bring their own hockey stick, skin pad and hockey shoes.

Closing date is Dec 11 and those interested can register with PBPHS secretary Desmond Labong at 016-8678848.
