Malaysians in quake-hit Aceh province of Indonesia safe — Wisma Putra

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians in Indonesia’s Sumatra are reportedly safe following an earthquake yesterday in Aceh province that is claimed to have killed tens of people, according to the Foreign Ministry.

News reports stated that at least 97 people were killed in the 6.4-magnitude quake that struck off the north-east coast of Sumatra island at 5.03am (6.03am in Malaysia).

The ministry said in a statement that the 428 Malaysian students in Banda Acheh were reported to be safe.

It advised Malaysians in the vicinity of the quake in need of consular assistance to contact the Malaysian consulate general in Medan at No. 43, Jalan P. Diponegoro, Medan, 20152 North Sumatra.
