KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) offers a reduced rate on compound for road users who were caught driving without valid licences and those with expired licences.

RTD in a statement yesterday said the compound reduction from the maximum RM300 was offered in stages for those who committed the offences.

“Under Section 26 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, drivers and motorcyclists found driving or riding without a driving licence or with expired licence, can be fined a maximum of RM300.

“However, if the offender pay up the compound within the stipulated time, a fee reduction would be offered to them,” it said.

According to the statement, for motorcyclists, if payment is made within one day to 15 days, they are offered to pay RM150 only, from 16 to 30 days (RM200) and RM250 for those who settle the compound within the period of 31 days to 60 days.

As for other vehicles, if payment is made within one day to 15 days, the compound offered is RM150, 16 to 30 days (RM200) and the maximum RM300 compound for those who make payment from 31 days and above.

Renewal of expired driving licences can be made at all RTD branches or RTD appointed agencies without paying fine.

Licence renewal was subject to those with expired licence for the period not exceeding three years.

RTD would also like to advise the public not to be influenced by any message via social media which did not have valid sources.

“If in doubt, the public is advised to refer directly to this department and not to participate in spreading misconceptions (RTD related),” it said. — Bernama
