TAWAU: Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) have issued strong reminders to companies or owners of heavy vehicles sternly warning them to comply with the directive on ‘parking areas’ that have been provided by the council, in order to avoid from being heavily penalized.

TMC president, Alijus Hj Sipil, said the warning reminder is directed in particular to heavy vehicles such as container lorries, trucks or lorries with large scale loads.

Alijus told the media that he has received several complaints from the public about heavy vehicles being parked indiscriminately in village areas, residential areas and road shoulders which poses danger and creates traffic congestion.

“As a consequent, we have closed down a container lorry ‘parking’ zone near the Land and Survey Department here and provided a new ‘parking’ area for them at Kilometre 7.5 Jalan Tiku near here.

“Enforcement agencies such as the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) will be carrying out operations to issue compounds to the heavy vehicle owners if they are found to have infringed on this directive,” Alijus pointed out.

Meanwhile, on other matters, Alijus announced that TMC building now provides free WiFi service for the staff and customers to enable them to go online and surf the internet, and is the first local authority in Sabah to do so. The free WiFi was launched in October this year.
