MIRI: The organisers of three major marathons scheduled to take place next year have teamed up to set up the ‘The Great Borneo Series’ (GBS).

Runners who complete all of the three full marathon events within the given time would be awarded points and given recognition.

The full marathon events are Miri Marathon (MM2017) on March 19, Borneo International Marathon (BIM2017) scheduled in Kota Kinabalu on May 7 and Kuching Marathon (KM2017) on Aug 13.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the three organisers at a simple ceremony witnessed by Miri Mayor Adam Yii at Miri City Council’s chamber room on Wednesday.

Among thise present at the signing of the MoU were Miri Marathon Association president James Ling, Borneo International Marathon president Darren Jee and Kuching Marathon Association president Wong Chen Yi.

“We truly believe that our loyal supporters deserve a special reward and we have collaborated to create ‘The Great Borneo Series’.

“This is to acknowledge the exceptional runners who successfully completed all three full marathons for a total distance of 126.585km, each to be completed within 6 and a half hours,” said Ling.

Beside the finisher medals of each of the three events, GBS will award the runners with a specially designed medal without any additional charge. The design of the medal will be revealed at a later stage.

“This medal can be collected upon the verification of the completion of the three full marathons, subject to terms and condition,” said Wong.

Jee meanwhile said, while not all participants could achieve podium finishes, this completion  of all the races in the GBS is well within the reach of many of them.

“Besides proving our superhero endurance, you can also appreciate the charm and beauty of three of Borneo’s most popular cities, namely Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching,” he said.

Those who wish to register for the three full marathons can visit the folloing sites – www.mmamarathon.com (Miri Marathon), www.borneomarathon.com (Borneo International Marathon) and www.marathonkuching.com (Kuching Marathon).
