KUALA LUMPUR: The Flood Supply Collection Centre at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Subang, near here, will be activated if there is severe flooding, said Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum yesterday.

He said all assets had been placed on standby to face any eventualities.

“We (Defence Ministry) are always ready every year at all levels (to face the floods). if flood is serious, we will act,” he told a media conference after flagging-off the Warriors Challenge 2016 at the Malaysian National Defence University (UPNM) here yesterday.

He was asked on the ministry’s preparation to face the eventuality of floods, especially in the east coast states, this year.

Floods which hit Kelantan in December 2014 forced more than 150,000 people to be evacuated.

On the Warriors’ Day Fund collection, Mohd Johari said RM2.6 million had been collected since last July 31 and believed it would meet the target of RM5 million collection for this year.

The Warriors Challenge 2016, organised by the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans’ Association, was part of the promotion for the Warriors’ Day Fund campaign.

Some 500 people, including media practitioners, participated in the eight kilometre-run. — Bernama
