MIRI: Thousands paid their last respects to businessman and philanthropist Tan Sri Datuk Jimmy Lau at Taman Yong, Luak Bay, Jalan Bakam yesterday.

They included Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Assistant Minister for Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, and Miri  mayor Adam Yii.

“Tan Sri was a very respected community leader, entrepreneur and philanthropist.

“He helped a lot on Chinese education, especially the Riam Road Secondary School, Riam Institute of Technology and Pei Min Middle School and various voluntary organisations,” said Lee.

“When he contributed, he always generously and willingly gave. His passing is a great loss to Miri community, he will always be remembered,” said Lee, adding that Lau also contributed a lot to the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

The funeral will be held today (Dec 11) at 11am at the Church of God in Pujut, opposite Boulevard Shopping Mall.

Lau died at 4.30am on Wednesday at Gleneagles Hospital in Singapore, where he was undergoing treatment.

His body arrived here on Friday at 4pm.

Lau was managing director of Jim Logs Holding Sdn Bhd.

He left behind his wife Puan Sri Annie Lau and their three children.
