MELAKA: Sixteen affiliates of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) are expected to study a ‘package’ presented by Tunku Mahkota of Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for the development of football in the country.

Melaka United Football Association (Musa) deputy president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi, who was among the 16 representatives who attended the presentation on Tuesday, said Tunku Ismail conducted the briefing himself.

“During the discussion, Tunku Ismail stated that he would not be the president of FAM but wants to play a role in the development of football in the country.

“We (FAM affiliates) will meet to discuss if we accept the ‘package’ offered by Tunku Ismail or any other choice available but if we want to see changes than we have to accept Tunku’s package,” he told reporters yesterday.

Mohd Yusoff however, did not reveal the contents of the package offered by Tunku Ismail.

FAM has 19 affiliates and according to Mohd Yusoff, three (affiliates) could not attend the discussion, namely Pahang, Police and Negeri Sembilan.

“Who heads the FAM as president is not important but the presence of Tunku Ismail in the FAM can bring about major changes in the structure and system of the football development. Maybe even the affiliates will benefit from his presence and ideas,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tunku Ismail when met after the presentation said he was sincere in his attempt to develop football in the country.

Tunku Ismail said he was not in it to gain anything, whether politics, money or post in the FAM. — Bernama
