133 athletes for Sarawak Wushu Championship

KUCHING: One hundred thirty-three young athletes from 50 schools in the state are vying for top honours in the 26th Sarawak Wushu Championship at the Sibu Indoor Stadium at the old airport road this weekend.

Host Sibu are fielding the biggest number of participants with 62 athletes and defending champions are parading 50 athletes including two Sukma athletes Mandy Liew and Stephanie Ngu.

Other participants are from Miri (12) and Sarikei (9).

The annual event on the Wushu Federation of Sarawak (WFS) calendar is aimed at selecting the potential athletes to be roped into the state backup and Sukma team as well as providing a good platform for the athlete to gauge their standard.

It is jointly organised by WFS and Kelab Wushu Permai Timur of Sibu.

Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian will grace the opening on Dec 17 while SUPP Bawang Assan branch chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew will close the event on Sunday.
