KUCHING: The Sarawak Club, which celebrates its 140th Anniversary this year, recently granted 89 Christmas wishes under the ‘Giving Tree’ programme to four charitable bodies.

Under this programme, needy residents from The Society for Kuching Urban Poor, Home of Peace, Kuching Palliative Association and Trinity Hope were invited to submit Christmas wishes which were then recorded and displayed on Sarawak Club’s Christmas Tree.

Sarawak Club members and staff would then fulfil the wishes by buying the presents that the residents wished for.

Established in 1876, Sarawak Club is organising a series of events throughout the year to celebrate its 140th anniversary.

Among the notable events was the Senior Members Appreciation Night, held on Oct 6 which saw a gathering of the longest serving members of the Club.

Among those in attendance were Sarawak Club past presidents Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi George Chan, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Steve Shim, Victor Fong, and George Lo.

Another important event was the Members’ Family Day where the Club chose five lesser known charities and gave them the opportunity to reach out to members who could contribute to their cause.

This year, the charities adopted were The Society For Kuching Urban Poor, Trinity Hope, Home of Peace, Kuching Palliative Association, and Breakthrough Network. Each charity had their share of RM50,000 contributed by the Club’s members.

The climax for this year will be the 140th Anniversary Ball to usher in 2017 in grandeur and style. This New Year Eve Ball promises to be a night to remember, with a specially designed fusion menu from the Club’s renowned kitchen and a majestic band to dance the night away.

The Club welcomes all members and guests to this celebration. The cost for each table of 10 persons is RM1,700.

Members are invited to reserve their tables early. For reservation, call the Activity Department at 082-242299.
