Tornado damaged houses in Banjarbaru

BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: Tornado destroyed dozens of homes in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, and caused a resident injured by a falling building materials, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

Chief Executive of the Banjarbaru Disaster MitigationAgency Taufik Rahmat here on Tuesday said that dozens of damaged homes spread over a number of points.

“The damage we have recorded are sawmill, dozens of homes, a madrasah (Islamic school), market’s roof, and one resident was seriously wounded,” he said.

The injured resident was Aulia Rahman (15). He suffered serious injuries in the head and had to get intensive care and inpatient in Idaman Banjarbaru hospital.

While a number of places of business heavily damaged located in the Pengayuan, Sub-district of Liang Anggang, with the condition of most of roofs were missing or collapsed by the wind.

“Two madrasah classrooms also severely damaged, that both could not be used. The roof of a market in that location was also damaged, while the average house slightly damaged,” he said.

According to him, the strong winds that hit Banjarbaru Monday night around 21:00 pm also destroyed dozens of homes in the sub-district of Landasan Ulin, both light and heavy damaged.

“We are still awaiting the full report from the urban village office related damage to both homes and public facilities. Temporary data showed dozens of houses were damaged, severely and lightly,” he said.

He said the municipal government ready to provide assistance to residents whose homes were damaged by strong winds which accompanied by heavy rain in the incident.

“City Government will provide assistance, possibly in the form of cash to residents whose homes were damaged and assistance to the wounded, the size will still be taken into account,” he said.

Strong winds that hit Banjarbaru Monday night also caused some trees on either side of the main road of A Yani collapse on the road.
