KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested two drug addicts in connection with five housebreaking cases and robbery here and in Keningau.

The suspects, aged 26 and 36, were arrested by police after their recent armed robbery committed with two others at a 24-hour convenience store at Plaza Manggatal on Dec 16.

In the 5.39am incident, four unidentified men entered the store armed with a machete and escaped with RM795.40 cash from the cash machine, a Samsung A8 and a Samsung Trend handphone, with losses amounting to RM3,000.

A CCTV footage from the store showed the robbers acting aggressively towards the store owner before fleeing with the stolen items.

After the incident and continuous investigation, police from the Kota Kinabalu Crime Investigation Department (IPD KK) raided a house at Taman Puri Warisan and arrested two of the suspects around 1.40 am on December 20.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said as police was making the arrests, one of his officers was injured after a scuffle with one of the suspects.

“Police have seized a Toshiba laptop and clothing such as a baseball hat, shoes, three T-shirts and a short pants from the suspects.

“Preliminary urine test of both suspects also came back positive for drug abuse,” said Chandra, adding that both suspects also had previous criminal records.

Chandra added that based on police investigation it was believed the suspects were involved in at least five other house breaking cases between Nov 12 and Nov 22 in Manggatal, Inanam and Keningau.

The suspects are being remanded to be investigated under Section 395/397 for armed robbery and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Police have also launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects and urged the public with any information to come forward to assist police in their investigation.
