KOTA KINABALU: Eight motorists were fined RM19,100 at the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday for driving overloaded vehicles.
Mohammad Abdul Said, Abdul Razak Halid and Watty Kansaran were each fined RM1,200, in default, four months’ jail; four of them were fined RM3,000, in default, four months’ jail while one of them was fined RM3,500, in default, four months’ jail.
The eight motorists pleaded guilty before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to each of their charges framed under Section 19 (1)(b) of the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Act 1987.
The indictment provides for a fine of not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM10,000 besides Rule 92(1) under Road Transport Act 1987.
A prosecuting officer from the Road Transport Department told the court that all the accused persons were arrested during separate operations here in Kota Kinabalu, between October 11 and October 13, this year.
In mitigation, all of the accused persons pleaded for a lower sum of fine.
