Ahmad Hazwan bags two national football awards

PETALING JAYA: National striker Ahmad Hazwan Bakri ended the season in style, bagging two titles at the 2016 National Football Awards held at Hotel Geno in Subang Jaya on Friday.

The former Selangor forward who joined Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) next season was named the best striker and Most Valuable Player (MVP).

National goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, who plays for Kelantan, created his own history, winning the best goalkeeper award for the fifth time. He won the award for consecutive years from 2010 to 2013.

Former national skipper Safiq Rahim won the best midfielder title for the fourth time after having won on three previous occasions – 2011, 2012 and 2015.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Rizal Ghazali and Tan Cheng Hoe, two important individuals who led Kedah to lift the Malaysia Cup this season, were chosen as the best defensive player and best coach, respectively.

Former T-Team winger Muhd Safavi Rasid who joined JDT ahead of the next season, was voted Most Promising Young Player. — Bernama
