KUALA LUMPUR: Iran is prepared to host events promoting Malaysian culture in Tehran as part of efforts to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

Iranian ambassador to Malaysia, Marzieh Afkham said these events, also planned in other cities, would introduce Malaysian arts and culture for Iranians to become more familiar with these aspects of the country, which she described as friendly.

She said besides Malaysian culture, it would also be possible for Iranians to know more about the country’s scientific, educational and economic achievements.

The ambassador was speaking at the opening of ‘The Iranian Cultural Days’, here, today with Malaysia National Library director-general, Nafisah Ahmad, also present.

The event is held at the National Library in Jalan Tun Razak from yesterday until this Thursday.

Marzieh said the exhibition and other activities during the event were aimed at familiarising Malaysians and people from other countries with Iranian culture, arts and civilisation.

Meanwhile, Nafisah said to date, there were 596 items on subjects related to Iran in the Malaysia National Library collection.

“The Iranian collection is in various formats which include 414 books, 136 proceedings and indexes, 23 journal articles, eight video recordings, six maps, six serials, one item each on music, computer file and sound recording,” she said.

She hoped that more books and related items on Iran would be added to the library’s collection through gift and exchange programmes. — Bernama
